Zhang Ruonan is the eldest of four siblings, with two younger sisters and a younger brother. When she was born, her grandmother had hoped for a grandson and therefore named her Zhang Ruonan using 男 nan, the character for male. Zhang Ruonan later changed her name to 楠 nan, a homonym for 男.
Friends with Shen Yue, her co-star from Be Yourself (2021). The two will both appear as supporting characters in Fox Spirit Matchmaker: Love in Pavilion.
